WASHINGTON - U.S. Rep. John Murtha today said he saw signs of military progress during a brief trip to Iraq last week, but he warned that Iraqis need to play a larger role in providing their own security and the Bush administration still must develop an exit strategy.

"I think the 'surge' is working," the Democrat said in a videoconference from his Johnstown office, describing the president's decision to commit more than 20,000 additional combat troops this year. But the Iraqis "have got to take care of themselves."

Violence has dropped significantly in recent months, but Mr. Murtha said he was most encouraged by changes in the once-volatile Anbar province, where locals have started working closely with U.S. forces to isolate insurgents linked to Al Qaeda.

Wow, that's a far stretch from what he was sayin' in May of 06' . A British schoolteacher has been accused of insulting the prophet Mohammed, by allowing her student's to name a teddy bear.

A British teacher has been charged with insulting religion and inciting hatred after allowing her class to name a teddy bear Mohammed.

Gillian GibbonsGillian Gibbons faces 40 lashes - and the British Government has shown its anger by summoning the Sudanese ambassador in London as a "matter of urgency".

Prime Minister Gordon Brown's spokesman said: "We are surprised and disappointed by this development."

Ms Gibbons has been charged under Article 125 of the criminal code, the Foreign Office confirmed.

The case will go before a court in Sudan tomorrow and the 54-year-old from Liverpool is expected to appear.

If convicted, Ms Gibbons faces 40 lashes, six months in prison, or a fine.

One student suggested they name the bear after himself, which also happen's to be the most common name in the Muslim world.

A pupil of the teacher leapt to her defence yesterday.

The seven-year-old said he suggested the name – after HIMSELF, not the Islamic prophet.

CARACAS (Reuters) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has lost his lead eight days before a referendum on ending his term limit, an independent pollster said on Saturday, in a swing in voter sentiment against the Cuba ally.
Forty-nine percent of likely voters oppose Chavez's proposed raft of constitutional changes to expand his powers, compared with 39 percent in favor, a survey by respected pollster Datanalisis showed.
Just weeks ago, Chavez had a 10-point lead for his proposed changes in the OPEC nation that must be approved in a referendum, the polling company said.
Despite the swing, company head Luis Vicente Leon said he did not rule out a comeback by the popular president.
Chavez has trounced the opposition at the polls on average once a year and can deploy a huge state-backed machinery to get out the vote, Leon said.
Still, the survey was the latest blow to Chavez. He has suffered a series of defections over his plan, including an ex-defense minister who had restored him to power after a brief 2002 putsch but who called Chavez's reforms a new "coup."

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - President Hugo Chavez warned his supporters on Friday that anyone voting against his proposed constitutional changes would be a "traitor," rallying his political base before a referendum that would let him seek unlimited re-election in 2012 and beyond.
Brandishing a little red book listing his desired 69 revisions to Venezuela's charter, Chavez exhorted his backers to redouble their efforts toward a victorious "yes" vote in the Dec. 2 ballot.

"He who says he supports Chavez but votes 'no' is a traitor, a true traitor," the president told an arena packed with red-clad supporters. "He's against me, against the revolution and against the people."

His speech followed the recent high-profile defection of his former Defense Minister Gen. Raul Baduel, a longtime ally who called the president's proposed reforms a "coup." Others have also broken with the Chavista movement in recent months, including politicians of the small left-leaning party Podemos.

Chavez's opponents accuse him of concentrating power and seeking to be president-for-life like his close friend Fidel Castro of Cuba. Chavez insists he will only stay on as long as Venezuelans continue to vote for him.

"If you don't approve (the referendum), maybe we'll have time for a parachute jump in five years," Chavez, a former paratrooper, told the crowd. "But if you wish—if you approve the referendum—I will stay as long as God wills! Until the last bone of my skeleton dries out!"

The proposed revisions would do away with presidential term limits, extend terms from six to seven years, let Chavez appoint regional vice presidents and eliminate Central Bank authority, among other changes.

Critics warn he would also have the power to shut down Venezuelan newspapers, television and radio stations by declaring a state of emergency, and the government could detain citizens without charges during such a period.

Chavez insists the reforms are meant to deepen democracy and give Venezuelans more of a voice in government, especially through neighborhood-based "communal" councils.

He said he plans to increase funding for the councils to 5 percent of his government's 2008 budget, or $3.2 billion, that will go toward neighborhood projects from public housing to road paving.

The funny and ironic thing is, when George Bush say's to the world "either your with us or against us" the left consider's this an abomination against any form of dissent, and consider's this a Republican administration's foundation, and basis to apply the charge of treason as a manipulative punative factor against free speech and differing opinion.

President Sarkozy of France is on the verge of a breakthrough in his ambitious plan to wean his country off the restrictive working practices he believes stand in the way of national prosperity.

Yesterday, the strike of rail and subway workers that has crippled France for nine days was clearly crumbling, as workers began returning to work in large numbers and union branches conceded that support for the dispute is collapsing.

"We think a dynamic of return to work has begun," Julie Vion, a spokeswoman for France's state-owned railroad network, SNCF, said.

Union leaders began to concede defeat yesterday. "We have to face reality. Since yesterday's negotiations, things have changed. The strike is no longer the solution. The strike strategy is no longer winning," a leader of the Sud union representing Paris underground railway workers, Philippe Touzet, said in an interview with Bloomberg News.

The collapse of support for the strike by individual rail workers marks the first success in what Mr. Sarkozy considers the key goal of his presidency, the abandonment of expensive entitlements and special conditions for public sector workers, including generous early retirement and pension benefits for half a million rail workers, which he believes make France uncompetitive.

Managers for SNCF announced yesterday that 42 out of 45 rail union committees have voted to abandon the national strike that has frozen the country's economy, and will return to work without delay.

Union's of course once served their purpose concerning worker's safety and alienable right's that most western government's now assume. Unfortunately in this day and age most Union's and the fat-cat's that run them are too consumed by greed to even care whether or not one stay's employed or if in fact the company even function's to the point they decide to run somewhere abroad to avoid them.

CHICAGO (CBS) ― U.S. Rep. Danny Davis (D-7th District) said Wednesday he was the victim of racial profiling. CBS 2's Mike Parker reports, the congressman insists the only reason he was pulled over by Chicago police is because he is black. "I hope that this was some kind of isolated instance, but I know in my heart of hearts, I know that it's not," Davis said. The congressman said he was driving three friends home early Monday morning when two white Chicago police officers pulled him over and said he had swerved over the center line before making a left turn from Kedzie onto Douglas Boulevard. The congressman was nailed with a $75 ticket and a date in traffic court on Dec. 28. He denies doing anything wrong. "There was just no reason I could conjure up other than the fact that there were four black people in a car," he said. Chicago police confirmed that a ticket was issued but said nothing about Davis' allegation that he was singled out for what he calls "driving while black." A recent survey suggests that 59 percent of African-Americans believe they've been racially profiled in traffic stops by police. The congressman said police need to put an end to it. "Something needs to happen and it needs to be real. And we're just a better city than that," Davis said. He intends to fight the ticket he says was "simply wrong." Davis is calling on city leaders to "bridge the gap" between police and the minority community.

Let's see early Monday morning, car swerves over center line of divided road, probably too dark at that time to tell what race the occupant's were. Sound's like these Chicago policemen may have thought they had a drunk driver on their hand's and were just doing their job.

Davis obviously subscribes to the Mckinney and Cold Cash Jefferson school of thought and seem's that if you incur an infraction of the law, it's not that your black and being profiled, it's that your being profiled with a (D) in front of your name that scream's the greater injustice and should offer up the ultimate immunity to any crime.

The Christians who might see these photos likely will recognize their friends here. And so they came to St John’s today in force, and they showed their faces, and they said, “Come back to Iraq. Come home.” They wanted the cameras to catch it. They wanted to spread the word: Come home. Muslims keep telling me to get it on the news. “Tell the Christians to come home to their country Iraq.”



It was the first mass said in St John’s since the church was shuttered after the nearby St George’s was destroyed and clergy in the north were kidnapped, tortured and executed.But things have changed dramatically in Dora, which is how the locals refer to this part of Baghdad. So much so that St. John’s is open and mass is being said again.

This Christian mom wanted to show off her kids. Muslim women also do this. Iraqi women love to show off their kids.A truce in the battle of pigtails had been declared, or a cease fire enforced. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen any fighting. I can’t remember my last shootout: it’s been months. The nightmare is ending. Al Qaeda is being crushed. The Sunni tribes are awakening all across Iraq and foreswearing violence for negotiation. Many of the Shia are ready to stop the fighting that undermines their ability to forge and manage a new government. This is a complex and still delicate denouement, and the war may not be over yet. But the Muslims are saying it’s time to come home. And the Christians are saying it’s time to come home. They are weary, and there is much work to be done.

"Every single question asked during the debate by the audience had to be approved by CNN," Luisa writes. "I was asked to submit questions including "lighthearted/fun" questions. I submitted more than five questions on issues important to me. I did a policy memo on Yucca Mountain a year ago and was the finalist for the Truman Scholarship. For sure, I thought I would get to ask the Yucca question that was APPROVED by CNN days in advance."

See, the media chose what they wanted, not what the people or audience really wanted. That's politics; that's reality. So, if you want to read about real issues important to America--and the whole world, I suggest you pick up a copy of the Economist or the New York Times or some other independent source. If you want me to explain to you how the media works, I am more than happy to do so. But do not judge me or my integrity based on that question."

Now the last debate with Tim Russert, now that was half a debate. Have we as a society de-generated so fully, that now it's not just the majority of the MSM carrying water for Liberal's against Conservatives, but now the MSM has broken off into faction's and are warring with each other, either for Hillary or against?

Extremist hate monger Sean Hannity is perhaps the prime media spokesperson and advocate not only for George W Bush but for all the major Republican Party candidates running for President. He's even held fundraisers for Rudy Ghouliani. Hannity also has a circle of minions, most notably Ann Coulter, who simply project the views of the Insanitized with one degree of separation. Hannity's thugs behind the scene are Faux Noise's Roger Ailes and WABC's Phil The Bully Boyce.
Thus, what Hannity says (and doesn't say)should be intertwined with any Republican presidential candidate and exposed to the American people so hopefully, once and for all, the fringe 20-25% that Hannity symbolizes can get crushed in the general election and eventually be relegated to 4th party status. Remember that Ghouliani, Romney, and Thompson all showed up at his Scammity Concerts.

Here is a 2 min. history of the hateful man Hannity is.
Hannity openly supported a Nazi named Hal Turner in his New Jersey Senate Campaign, supported convicted cops who sodomized Abner Louima with a plunger, and is silent when Ann Coulter claims her only regret is that Timothy McVeigh didn't blow up the NY Times Building. Hannity is a longtime supporter of Bob Grant, who refers to blacks as "savages" and openly supported the CCC, a right wing nazi group. One should not be surprised since Sean's buddy Hal from North Bergen once said that "if it wasn't for the white man, blacks would be swinging from trees." Hannity also defended Bill Bennett's abort every black baby in America comment.
When Hannity talks about Osama Bin Laden or "Islamofascists," he is almost always describing himself with brilliant alacrity. Hannity, like the "suiciders" told his audience that preventing Nancy Pelosi from being the speaker of the house is "worth dying for."
Hannity is a mean nasty man or as Wide Stance Larry Craig would say, a naught nasty naughty boy. Hannity has suggested that Chelsea Clinton was conceived by rape. This is the same Hannity who is silent when Bill the Falafel O'Reilly claims that a 13 year old boy enjoyed being kidnapped and sexually abused or when Rush Limbaugh mocks the speech coordinating skills of a 12 year old.
When Ted Nugent advocated shooting Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, Hannity defended Nugent and attacked Nugent's critics as hateful. When James Dobson compared stem cell research to the Holocaust, Sean Hannity concurred. When Pat Robertson blamed Americans for 9/11 Hannity was silent. When Coulter fantasized about blowing up people in New York subways or expressing her desire to repeal suffrage for women, Hannity just egged her along.
Why is Hannity silent when Bill O'Reilly wishes Al Qaeda would blow up a building in San Francisco? Why is Hannity silent when Rush Limbaugh callously calls our soldiers phonies or staff pukes? Why is Hannity aligning himself with radical Minutemen who seek to kill and deport anybody who is Hispanic regardless of where they were born? Why is Hannity silent when Malkin stalks children? Why does Hannity affirm Dobson's assertion that there is no separation of church and state in the Constitution? Why is Hannity silent when Coulter calls Edwards a "faggot" and says she wishes Edwards gets blown up by terrorists? Why is Hannity silent when Coulter says she wants to kill all world leaders who aren't Christians and she wants to put poison in the beverage of a Supreme Court justice?
Hannity also claims to "support the troops" but as I and others have exposed, his so called Freedom Concerts are a scam where more money gets spent on stamps than scholarships.
Hannity denies global warming and science, favors economic policies that are destroying the American middle class, believes in corporatized medicine, and wants to destroy our education system. On social issues, Hannity basically wants to repeal the entire Bill of Rights (save for his interpretation of the 2nd amendment) and turn America into Ahmadinejad's Iran but with a different bible and deity to hide behind.
When you have this history, you don't want questions coming from somebody with knowledge. If you are going to pretend that you believe in a fair and equal debate in a fair forum, you debate a 6 year old. And when you realize that the average 6 year old is too much of a match for you, you hire Alan Colmes and put clauses in his contract that basically say that he has to lick your ass and cave into you as part of the "format" of the show.
When you're the obvious, compulsive, and pathological liar that Sean Hannity is, you cut mikes, plant questions, splice and dice video and audio to create a new reality, and avoid people of knowledge. Randomly give me an hour's worth of tape of a typical Hannity broadcast and I'd probably find you at least a 100 lies, smears, and/or distortions.
There was two occasions in the past where I had asked a question of Sean Hannity. The first time he stumbled so poorly and I called out every lie on the spot that the best he could claim was "Oh just go get your own talk show." The second time I asked him if he would denounce Coulter's comments about blaming Jews for the Holocaust and wishing that McVeigh blew up the NY Times building. Hannity then bashed Soros to which I replied, "yes or no I didn't ask you about George Soros and I'm not Alan Colmes." Hannity signaled to have my mike cut.
This history between Sean and I is why Hannity was afraid of having a question asked by me. (Levin's book signing was on a separate floor and separate part of the store.)
Based on the list provided, there are dozens of questions I could ask of him which he can't answer. Hannity KNOWS that someone like me (I'm not the only one) would utterly destroy him in a fair and open debate. That is why Boyce tried to have me arrested last Saturday night. But it backfired for Hannity will now be forever known as the wimp and coward who tried to have a person arrested not for a question asked but for a question he thought was going to be asked. It's hard not to stop laughing.

Of course no mention of the many pundit's on the left like The Olbernutt, Bill Maher, or Chris Matthew's, the nutbags at Air America or 'Faux Noises' own Geraldo Rivera who do the same thing against conservatives.

Yet again San Francisco decides, undermining our sovereignty and providing a welcome cozy environment for law breaking invader's is more important than upholding the law our land.

The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to issue municipal identification cards to city residents - regardless of whether they are in the country legally - and to double the amount of public money available to candidates running for supervisor.
Supervisor Tom Ammiano, who authored the ID card legislation, said the program is a smart public safety measure because it would make residents living on the social margins of San Francisco more likely to seek the help of police and could give them more access to banking services.
"People are afraid to report crimes," Ammiano said, referring to illegal immigrants who avoid local law enforcement authorities over fear of being arrested or deported by federal immigration officials.
The legislation would require companies holding city contracts to accept the municipal card as a legitimate form of identification - except in cases where other state and federal laws require other forms of proof of age, name and residence.
Under San Francisco's sanctuary ordinance, it is city policy that no municipal government personnel or resources be used to assist federal immigration officials in the arrest and deportation of illegal immigrants.

What a total crock of hot steaming wet sh$t this is. No not what they did, I mean San Fran itself. They keep aiding abetting law breakers, and thumbing their noses at the rest of us.

Woa! Hold on a sec. In the S.F. Chronicles puffpiece it said this was supposed to benefit all San Fransiscan's, and that the "immigrant" aspect was secondary. But going with the Chronicles poll it was the primary issue, not to mention with the overabundance of "jobs American's just wont' do", illegal immigrant's should be gainfuly employed and not have to rob anyone.

AP Kills Paris Hilton Drunken Elephant Story

Wonder if those elephants were pink, or chartruese ?

GAUHATI, India (AP) - In a Nov. 13 story, The Associated Press incorrectly reported that Paris Hilton was praised by conservationists for highlighting the problem of binge-drinking elephants in northeastern India. Lori Berk, a publicist for Hilton, said she never made any comments about helping drunken elephants in India.
